In history, leprosy and leprous were subject to depreciative representations which allow the usage of a leprosy treatment model based on patients exclusion and confining asylum institutions. This essay aims to discuss the relationship between abstract representations and power practices from the description of measures introduced with reference to leprosy in Brazil, 20th century.
