2021Mariana Dias Pinheiro Santos. A linguagem em hobbes: 1656, 1651 e 1650. Cadernos Espinosanos, n. 45, p. 221-256, 2021.3
The aim of this work consists in presenting some changes made by Hobbes between Elements of Law and the English editions of Leviathan and De Corpore regarding his theory of language. We claim that it is not possible to conceive an unity among all aforementioned works and that De Corpore holds the final version of the hobbesian language theory; we also suggest that such changes are due, at least in part, to Descartes’s criticisms in his replies to the Third Objections and the adoption, from 1651 on, of geometry, as a method, in theory of language.
