This paper highlights how Fichte develops his anthropology by trying to solve the fundamental question raised by Rousseau about the ambivalence of modern civilization process. Fichte’s solution consists in conceiving a dynamic balance between nature and freedom that would be achieved in education within the horizon of moral progress in the wake of Kant. Based on Koselleck's understanding of Perfectibility, this article shows how Fichte’s conception of drives and efforts allows an advance in the conception of man as a historical being, inaugurated by Rousseau in the Second Discourse.
