the aim of this article is to reflect on the project of The Birth of Tragedy and its respective self-criticism in the preface of 1886 in the light of the adjectives “serious” (ernst) and “heavy” (schwer), having as support the fictional interpretation of the Nietzsche’s philosophy developed by H. Vaihinger.
