Gelasio i y la teoría política de la autoridade

This article starts from contemporary reflections on authority and identifies the relevance of the antecedent of Pope Gelasius I, the first to establish the distinction between papal authority and imperial power. It then draws on the approaches of intellectual history, history of ideas, hermeneutics, and archaeology in order to understand the Gelasian contribution. The relevance of the Gelasian distinction for the study of the discursive formation of Latin Christendom as well as contemporary political theory is then assessed
