No other philosopher before Hegel has given the question of present and history such a central place in the set of questions that define a philosophical program. This is a bet on an integral readability of the historical structures of Western rationality, unified within the diversity of its constitutive moments, which animates, from part to part, the Hegelian intellectual experience. This article seeks to highlight the close ties that link the Hegelian philosophical program to the expectations, divisions and impasses in which the philosophy of his time, in other words, modernity, became entangled. In this sense, from the critique of the models of intelligibility of modern thought, we shall demonstrate how Hegel (re)invents the discourse category, producing a radically new way of articulating classical notions such as "understanding", "representation", "concept" and "reason".
