O colecionador entre a arte e a história:: sobre a materialidade no materialismo histórico de Walter Benjamin

The article approaches the role of the collector in Walter Benjamin’s thought, especially concerning his reflections on art and culture in scope of historical materialism. At first, I present some characteristic features of the collector according to Benjamin. Then I highlight the collector and historian Eduard Fuchs, as well as some works of art from his collection and some of the insights stemming from his collector’s passion. I then conclude with an attempt for valuing Fuchs’ historical break from the point of view of Benjamin’s aesthetic theory
