Qual a meta? Sobre Leon Battista Alberti

The prescription of central plant churches in the treatise De re aedificatoria has raised several questions about the religiosity of Leon Battista Alberti. Beside the optimism that Alberti demonstrates with “inventions” and human “progress”, the pessimistic judgments about social institutions and civil life are unveiled in some of his writings. The assessment of the different modalities of Alberti’s epistemology allows better profiling the humanist views of nature, civic and sacred order.
