The article considers the recovery of the imagination as an essential component of collective reinvention in a context in which the worsening of the socio-ecological crisis is presented as one of the most pressing problems of the current global system. To accomplish this, we use the positions taken by various theorists in sociology and environmental ethics as a framework. The common thread focuses on three axes: 1) The first focuses on the characteristics of the process of reconfiguring ethics on a large scale, structured on the immediacy and extraterritoriality of economic power, where the neighbour is also a distant Other, in time and space; 2) the second axis delves into the significance acquired by the recovery of the imagination in its relationship with the principles of responsibility and precaution, as essential elements for a change in the design of policies; and 3) all of this is directly related to the third axis, which is focused on the application of biomimicry's theoretical and practical postulates as a structural concept and application tool that combines both perspectives. The analysis developed aims to contribute to the theoretical arguments of environmental ethics from the standpoint of critical environmental thinking.
