The article points to the relevance of a reading of the Revolution in the way of thinking, major theme of the Second Preface to the Critique of Pure Reason, in the light of the awakening of dogmatic slumber, confessed by Kant in his Prolegomena about David Hume and similarly indicated in a handwritten note about his encounter with the works of J.-J. Rousseau. It is argued therefore that the questions posed by Hume’s works not only could not be fully elucidated by Kant before Rousseau’s works were considered, but also and above all, that this exegetical effort resulted precisely in the proposition of the critical attitude as a solver of the problems continually repeated by dogmatism in metaphysics.
