SPECULUM MAIUS: METAFÍSICA E TEOLOGIA EM UMA ENCICLOPÉDIA DO SÉCULO XIII

This article aims to analyze the Speculum doctrinal of Vincent de Beauvais, highlighting the way in which the author seeks to assimilate materials of Arab origin, especially with regard to the division and classification of sciences. We will argue that Vincent de Beauvais will maintain in his work the spirit that animated the encyclopedias of the 12 century while resorting to Arabic texts to present the structure of human knowledge. As a result, a certain tension will arise between metaphysics and theology as supreme disciplines.
