This article aims to present points of contact between Walter Benjamin and Expressionism. To this end, seek to establish a path that begins by "elective affinities" between Expressionism and Baroque pointed out in his study of Trauerspiel, through the use of this allegory in both Baroque works as the historical avant-gardes, until the image feature of thought in Benjamin. In this line, his allegory of the automaton, - in the broadest sense - is a loss of image experience in industrial society. In view of this, we propose an approach of this concept to the typology and characterization of characters Expressionist cinema.
