Rawls's work is responsible for the rehabilitation and strengthening of political and moral philosophy. However, there is clearly, as some critics claim, a certain deficit regarding the treatment of the law. With that in mind, this article presents a discussion on the law in A Theory of Justice, particularly with regard to the legal system and its related concepts. So we discuss the concepts of formal justice and rule of law, aimed at protecting basic freedoms.
